Health Professional Information: Diclectin® product features

Diclectin® is the only antinauseant/antiemetic specifically indicated, prescribed and labelled for the management of nausea and/or vomiting of pregnancy (NVP).

Diclectin®, historically has been recognized as the drug of choice for NVP by the medical community: SOGC (Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada), MOTHERISK (Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto), NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders).

Diclectin® has been available for over 25 years and prescribed to over 33 million women.

Diclectin® is the most studied medicine for use during pregnancy. Its vitamin B6 and antihistamine-based combination has been included in 25 epidemiological studies (200,000 women) and 2 meta-analyses. All confirmed Diclectin®'s safety in pregnancy.

Diclectin® scored the highest safety rating "A" in Briggs' Reference Guide to fetal and neonatal risk (see below) and is the only product to score such a rating.

Diclectin® delayed release formula and dosing schedule provides 24-hour control of symptoms of nausea and/or vomiting. This will prevent the disease to progress to a more serious level called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) that requires hospitalisation to rehydrate the patient.

When administered at the early stage of nausea and/or vomiting, Diclectin® alleviates the symptoms of NVP while improving quality of life and the ability to conduct activities of daily living.

Because of potential drowsiness, Diclectin® should be prescribed with caution for patients who must drive automobiles or operate machinery.

Diclectin® is listed on all provincial formularies in Canada as a benefit as well as most Canadian private insurance plans.

Diclectin® is currently available only in Canada.
